“For standards to have an
impact on what goes on in the classroom, they must be teachable.”

Teachable and Measurable Standards
Aligned·By·Design
Model-enabled
Content Standards are teachable, measurable and easily benchmarked with
international, state and federal standards and assessments.
The standards are distinguished by
high-definition, knowledge-referenced content which can be perfectly aligned
with instructional curriculum and assessments. They
precisely define, sequence and transparently
communicate what a student needs to learn for proficiency, grade-by-grade and
class-by-class.
To be teachable and measurable, content standards, whether common core, state or
district, must:
-
Clearly and unequivocally define the specific content knowledge and
application skills which a student needs to master for proficiency in each
subject area and grade
-
Be
precisely aligned to show how the natural progression of content knowledge
and skills builds sequentially from one grade to the next and across the
curriculum
-
Be
easy to understand, communicated effectively to districts, schools and
teachers and modeled through aligned, knowledge-referenced instructional
curriculum, including lesson plans and unit assessments
-
Specify grade- and content-specific performance expectations that clearly
articulate the unit and course/grade knowledge and skills to be measured for
each state and federal performance level (basic, proficient, advanced)
-
Be
aligned with assessment data that is available in real-time to enable
districts, schools and teachers to evaluate ongoing student performance in
relation to the expectations and to help administrators and teachers inform
and guide instruction and guide remediation
-
Be
defined to enable their precise benchmarking with international and other
content standards or assessments
-
Be
transparent along with information about how state assessments are aligned
to the standards with that information current and communicated openly
whenever standards, curriculum or assessments are clarified, updated or
revised
