Parents rightly expect
their children to graduate from high school with the globally competitive
knowledge and skills required for success in higher education, the workforce
and life. In many communities
parent expectations and student achievement realities are seriously
disconnected with significant achievement gaps the result.
Educational experts have determined that student achievement gaps
are fundamental, systemic, interrelated and the result of a fundamental systemic problems.
They found most state standards devoid of real content.
All were lacking a teachable definition that precisely specified the
sequential content knowledge, skills and concepts students needed to learn
for proficiency on state assessment.
Parents play a vital role
in our local school systems both as an advocate for their children and as a
supporter of high-quality instruction and classroom teachers.
When students do not achieve as expected and local schools are
under-performing, parents become community leaders for system improvements.
States, school districts,
schools and teachers share the responsibility for keeping parents current on
their children’s learning objectives and communicating how those objectives
are being met in the classroom.
To gain this understanding, parents and students need more than just
assignment information, test results and monthly newsletters.
They require transparency and access to useful information about the
state learning objectives and how it will impact the teaching process in
their local schools.
They want to
know what is expected to be taught in each class and what must be learned
for proficiency on state assessments.
The
Aligned·By·Design Model uses effective communications tools
and processes to
enable state, district and local education leaders and classroom teachers to
clearly explain
the learning expectations set
by state academic standards and the classroom curriculum.
The system enables them to benchmark and track student performance
daily and to measure real-time progress with week-by-week learning
objectives.
Today’s reliance on school and teacher-provided information leaves parents
unable to effectively support student studies and school policies.
The
Aligned·By·Design
Model provides parents web-based access to all the information they need to
effectively monitor their children and the classroom instruction content and
activities. It enables them to
work with teachers and school administrators to pinpoint learning issues as
they emerge and develop
individual
education plans or short-term remediation plans if they are needed to close
learning gaps.
With these tools and system accesses, parents are able to become effectively
engaged with their school and teacher to stimulate, promote and fulfill
student learning improvement.
